Victorian Workhouses were where the poor poeple who had no job or no home to live in stayed. The poor had to work to support themselves with food and clothings etc. Orphans and abandoned children, the physically or mentally disabled people and elderlies were also people that live in workhouses. The poor and old feared the workhouses because the government purposely did so, scared that it would encourage people to become lazy and would try to keep out of it. Even though it was a place where those people could live in, it wasn’t absolutely a bad place because families were split, and they could even be punished if they tried to talk to each other. Also, the education that the children were getting didn’t include reading and writing. Also, the poor people had to wear uniforms so that people knew that they were poor and lives in the workhouse. And also, the food was tasteless are repeated everyday.
