Folk Songs About Revolution
The song I chose is called "God Save the Thirteen States". This song is sang in the tune of the song "God Save the Queen". Although God Save the Queen is a British song, God Save the Thirteen States was sang like it because the write wanted to show the British that the Americans had their own identity, by not talking about the same things and also that they could become a country as powerful as the British were. The lyrics of both songs are formatted similarly. For almost all lines of the song, they have the same amount of syllables in each. This song is basically about how the Americans were praying to win the war and end the tyrannic government. They wanted to have a free state, not being ruled by the Europeans, especially how the European government ruled them ruthlessly. This poem/ song isn't quite long and is basically talking about the same things over and over again which is how they want to have liberty and be freed from the Europeans.
